Got Stress?
You can run but you can’t hide. The effect of stress can age you seemingly overnight. A perfect visual to put in your head are the “before and after” photos of our presidents. Ok we might not be as stressed as the President but stress will show on your skin in several ways:
• Stress wrinkles
• Stress tension lines
• Stress breakouts
• Stress redness
• Stress sensitiveness or irritation
Stress can affect every cell in the body and worsen existing skin problems. Problems like Eczema, Rosacea and Acne. Stress accelerates aging, so much so that stress is the 2nd greatest influence on aging, second only to sun damage. Cortisol, known as the “stress hormone” triggers inflammation, damages cell membranes, shortens DNA strands and reduces cellular production of youthening proteins, especially collagens, elastin and glycosaminoglycans. This leads to early cell death and the onset of premature aging. It also increases sebum production and inflammation, which can lead to an acne breakout, redness and increased allergic reactions or sensitiveness. Insert sound of record scratching right here. Never fear, the effects of stress can be stopped in its tracks with some simple steps:
• Lifestyle change, I know it’s not easy but start to plan your exit from that bad job/ relationship • Get a facial, then book another, oxytocin works magic
• Start exercise routine, even if it’s just a walk
• Make better food choices, enough said
• Get some sleep, repeat nightly
• Take your supplements and drink your water We have lots of lovely products you can use at home if you can’t find the time for a facial. The following is a list of our go to favorites: • Tu-el’s Super Soothe Mask ($) I leave this on as a spot treatment for my stress breakouts
